Dare to bare! (Emotions.)

Although her name translates as fairy-tale, and her breath-taking beauty appears as innocent and angelic as that of a fairy-tale princess, violinist Satu Vänskä, assistant leader of the ACO and founder, curator and front woman of the ACO Underground is far from being one. Strong, opinionated and more than ready to tap into “murkier waters of the human condition".

(“It must be the Finn in me”, she once explained) her curiosity and appetite for knowledge, paired with braveness and daringness of an Amazon make her a perfect choice for the WOman Project author and artistic director, together with Matjaž Latin, director and Aljaž Zupančič, dramaturg.

As a hardcore ACO-ian she hates boundaries and labels in music, but being a woman – a creator – her way goes beyond demolishing conventions and putting down walls. Her way is the way of constructing, of building new musical landscapes. And her blueprint? Mood, sentiment, atmosphere which certain piece or pieces of music put together create.”If you put Bach next to Nirvana, you're not sure which one sounds more shocking. And yet, it isn't about shocking people, it's about putting pieces of music into context, to hear it with different ears. It's very much contextualizing the program – what sort of flows from one piece to another.“*

So, bye-bye definitions, norms, standards! Bye-bye comfort zones and hello – emotions! Are you (WO)man enough for it?
