Slovenian soprano Nika Gorič obtained her BA from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Austria, and had just recently completed her Masters degree with Distinction (awarded 100 points – the highest available mark) at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In September, she will begin the Royal Academy Opera course, remaining under the tutelage of Lillian Watson and Jonathan Papp. Nika has recently been awarded the Regency Award for notable achievements, presented to a select group whose industry and achievement were consistently of the highest calibre during their time at the Academy; Clifton Prize; Helen Eames Prize and Lillian Eldee Award for female singers. Her studies are generously supported by the Maria Callas and Stanley Picker Award, Slovenian Ministry of Culture Scholarship, and Josephine Baker Trust. She is also a member of the Academy Song Circle and a regular soloist in the Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata series.

Her operatic roles include Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Sandman in Hänsel und Gretel (Humperdinck), Elisetta in Il matrimonio segreto (Cimarosa). Other concert projects have included Mahler's Symphony No. 4 with performances in Paris and London. Nika was a Featured Young Artist at the Festival Maribor 2012 with the artistic director Richard Tognetti. She is looking forward to performing the role of Susanna with the RAO at the Hackney Empire Theatre in October this year.

A frequent performer of song repertoire, Nika was a finalist in the recent Schumann Lieder Prize competition at RAM. She also performed a selection of songs by Schubert at the prestigious Oxford Lieder Festival, accompanied by Michael Dussek. Other recent performances include Bach Cantata solos on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’, the B Minor Mass solos at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, and public masterclasses with Elly Ameling at the Wigmore Hall and Susan Bullock at RAM.
